Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA®

Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® is a 12-hour small group, evidence-based intervention designed specifically for self-identified girls (14 - 18 years old) of all sexual identities who have not yet graduated high school.

Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® was adapted from the original evidence-based Flip the Script with EAAA® program for 17 - 24 year old female-identified college/university students. Like the original program, Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® is based on theory, research evidence, and best practices for providing girls and young women with the knowledge and tools to defend themselves against sexual coercion and assault. The Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® curriculum has substantial overlap with the original program. Learn more about the original Flip the Script with EAAA® here

How is Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® different from the original program?

Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® was adapted over a two-year process of research and consultation with teen girls and service providers. Learn more about the process for adapting the program for teen girls here

Changes to the Girls – Flip the Script with EAAA® program include:

  • The scenarios, videos, and audio recordings used throughout the program were revised to reflect common social settings and experiences for teens.
  • Many of the activity instructions and troubleshooting sections throughout the program were revised for clarity and to be developmentally appropriate for teen girls.
  • The scripted content has been edited for clarity and simplicity so that it is more easily understood by teens.
  • The Assess unit includes an additional icebreaker activity designed to help the program participants get to know each other.
  • The Act unit teaches additional self-defense techniques (e.g. resistance to being held by one's ponytail) requested by girls.
  • The Relationships & Sexuality unit includes new activities from the Our Whole Lives: Sexuality Education Program for Grades 7 - 9 and Grades 10 - 12, including an overview of the female sexual system, practice setting and communicating boundaries related to sexual activity, and exploring what makes a good relationship.

Our very first A-EAAA Train-the Trainer workshop was held in Windsor Ontario as part of the newest PHAC funded project. This workshop is an adaptation specifically designed for staff from organizations who want to implement the Girls - Flip the Script with EAAA® program. We anticipate another of these workshops will be held within two years. These workshops are currently only open to staff from organizations who are part of the Girls Scale Up project, however, if there are spaces available, requests will be considered from existing EAAA Campus Trainers who want to expand their reach to younger girls in their communities. The Girls - Flip the Script with EAAA® is specifically designed for 14 - 18 year old girls who have not graduated from high school and will need a unique implementation plan. A EAAA 2024 Train-the Trainer participants
